Classroom Book of Presidents

  1. Have each student write a one-page biography of one or more presidents.

  2. Explain that the class will write a book together about the presidents of the United States, and that the book they create will be added to your Classroom Library for other students to read. Students will also make one copy of the book for themselves.

  3. Have students draw one or more presidents' names and write up one-page biographies.

    a. Presidents' biographies can include

    • Important contributions they made to American history

    • Significant decisions they made

    • Important changes they made to government or  law

    • Problems they solved

  4. Decide how much space per page can be devoted to illustrations (books can be up to 60 pages long (30 sheets printed on both sides.)

  5. After students have done some research and created some of their pages, ask what the book should be titled. Discuss the pro and cons of several possible titles.

  6. Have students discuss which illustration should be included in the cover art. Perhaps several different drawings could be incorporated into a design for the cover.

  7. Have students produce a title page, table of contents page, "About the Authors" or "About the Class" page.
